Queen's Birthday Hats!

On Wednesday the teachers' had a special morning tea to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The teachers all dressed up in fancy clothes and they had cups of tea out of fine tea cups with saucers. Mrs Keane wore a beautiful blue hat with a flower on it and on her hands she wore lacy gloves. Around her neck she had a shiny pearl necklace. We all had a turn at wearing the hat!

Jake is learning about Volcanoes.

Jake is interested in volcanoes.
During discovery time Jake wondered about what was inside volcanoes and how they erupted. He did some finding out from the internet and in books.
Mrs Keane helped him make a volcano erupt in the sandpit using baking soda and vinegar and some orange paint to make it look like flames.
Jake told us the baking soda represented the rocks inside the Earth and when he poured in the vinegar that was like the rocks heating up so much that they melted and turned into the hot lava of melted rocks that erupt out of a volcano.

WALA Water- How do we clean dirty water so that we can drink it?

We visited Room 7 because they had an expert scientist in ( Lochie's Mum!) who had shown them how you can make dirty water into water that you can drink!
Mrs Gunn had some really dirty water that was full of mud and stones.
Mrs Gunn decanted some of the water into one containter by tipping it down a galss rod and lots of the stones and dirt stayed out. So now there was a container with REALLY dirty water and one that was still dirty but had some of the muck out of it but we still decided we didn't want to drink it!
The Mrs Gunn and Claire folded a piece of filter paper ( like you use for coffee) into a cone shape and put them into two glass funnels.
Then Mrs Gunn poured the REALLY dirty water inot one and the not-so- dirty water into the other cone.

Slowly the water dripped through.

This is the water that had all the rocks and lots of mud removed.
This is the REALLY dirty water.
Look at all the mucky that was left in the filter paper.
The water that had come through the filter looked clean enough to drink!!
Thanks Room 7 and Mrs Gunn for sharing your learning with us.

WALA God is 3 in 1- Father, Son and Holy Spirit

We did an experiment.
Into a plate of milk we dropped three different colours of dye.

Then Mrs Keane added a few drops of dishwashing liquid.
The three different colours started moving about in the milk!

After a couple of minutes the three colours mixed together and became one colour.

We have been learning that God is
3 in One
1.God the Father- Te Matua
2.God the Son, te Tamaiti ( Jesus)
3. God the Holy Spirit, te Wairua Tapu

WOW!! That is amazing.
